He talked about the Venezuelan deal and not much else and then opened it up for questions. He handles the press well. They actually aren't very adversarial with him for whatever reason.

He is indeed very good at this. He has an ability to put people at ease. With anyone else the press acts like a bunch of frickin jackals. With him they are respectful. He doesn't give them any room to be any other way.

He’s also not Trump so he gets that benefit of the doubt. I still don’t know if I trust JD completely.

JD is a great orator, speaches are his thing but, sometimes a direct answer to a question is best.
Ima simple man, he loses he at times from shear boredom.
If he doesn't have an answer, tell it like it is and move on.
My uncle Tucker would say, he's one of those guys that, "if he can't dazzle them with brilliance, he'll baffle them with bullshite."
He's well suited for the podium if thats what you're in to.

I don't either. But he's good at giving pressers. He joked that Trump said that if he does too well, Trump would make him permanent press secretary. He laughed about it, but he would be great in the role.

I totally understand your perspective. So much of this is nuanced, and the talking points we see everyday skip much of that nuance.
He tries to level set understanding and education on topics to break through some of that nuance and bullshite talking points.

Not that it’s where he’s going but Trump knows how to play JD in this administration for sure. I think it’s a two fold of doing just that but limiting Vance as well.
