Didn't Lincoln want to ship all slaves back to where they came from? US Congress said no.

“Honest Abe” was nothing as we’ve been taught. It’s all a fairy tale. Propaganda written by the winners

Lincoln is reported to have met with Frederick Douglass and told him something to the effect of my people don't want your people here.
They also tried an experiment of relocating several hundred former slaves to an island in the Caribbean to see about repatriating slaves back to Africa. It did not turn out well and the survivors had to be rescued by the US Navy.
It is not politically correct to say these days that the Civil War was not about slavery, but it was not. Lincoln made that very clear that it was about preservation of the Union.
If you want to state that secession was about slavery, that is of course correct.
