True. But the democratic congress made getting a loan a racial issue and threatened banks if they did not give these loans.

The bulk of the shitty loans were not originated from banks covered by the CRA.

As usual, you are woefully misinformed. Bush specifically warned congress about what was about to happen. He was called racist.
Total B.S. Bush then did nothing. That one event is jumped on by those who don't read beyond the headlines.

Dummy. What should Bush have done. Congress is charged with making the laws. He warned congress. They called him racist for it. I know you wacko leftists are authoritarians, but Bush didn't take the "phone and a pen" approach to being President.

They were still threatened by congress. And labeled racist. I don't understand the hesitation to say "Dems in congress were in the wrong".

But to answer the OP, it all goes back to fearing Trump will stop their using the govt to extract revenge for social reasons.
That, and they're scared somebody will keep them from sucking cock or licking lap.

Obamacare was a horrible law. Every republican elected to a national office said they would overturn it. Guess what they didn't. So do you pace the blame to the GOP who controlled the house and senate and the white house for not overturning the law that they all said they would do?

These new HUD rules lowered down payments from the traditional 20 percent to 3 percent by 1995 and zero down-payments by 2000. What's more, in the Clinton push to issue home loans to lower income borrowers, Fannie Maeand Freddie Mac made a common practice to virtually end credit documentation, low credit scores were disregarded, and income and job history was also thrown aside. The phrase "subprime" became commonplace. What an understatement.
The majority of the sub-prime loans that precipitation the crash were not made by banks that were covered by the Community Reinvestment Act.
Wall Street self regulation was a major factor in the crash.

in 2004 the major firms convinced the SEC to let them value certain assets on their balance sheet at values they chose-- rather than marking them t o market-- which would reveal what losses they were carrying. This added another dangerous laxity to financial regulation. The system was falsifying its accounts believing the investments would bounce back.

Bush was touting every chance he got about the percentage of Americans that owned their own homes being at an all time high.
Bush appointed Donaldson as Chairman of the SEC who let the Wall Streeters value their own assets and cover up the massive losses they were accruing.
They securitized the crappy mortgages and sold them to Freddie ans Fannie.

One of the biggest provisions of the ACA is thresholds for coverage of pre-existing conditions. Often those are uncontrollable.

What was it pre-ACA? It probably went up but it wasn’t cheap before. Healthcare is expensive.

Your criticism of GW Bush doesn't work anymore.
Rep or Dem, they are the establishment.
George Wallace had it right when he said there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the parties. Now cry and scream racism because I invoked the name of George Wallace. That doesn't work anymore, either.
P.S.: I'm glad you took my advice and changed your location to THE Woodlands.

None of that changes who makes the regulations. You posted that Mortgage Companies were loaning money. Like most topics, you are ignorant, yet so confident in your ignorance. And like most topics, you won't understand what everyone else on the board has been telling you. It's fascinating to watch.

Republicans were saying the same thing about Bush before the Great Recession happened.

The loan brokers identify the purchasing bank before anything is even done with the application. Otherwise, they could never quote an interest rate or terms. They are, in most cases, just a middle man playing by the banks rules.
Nice try though.
