There are winners and losers with every bill. Some people pay more in taxes after the recent tax cut. A lot more without the state tax deduction. It’s hugely punitive on certain people.
If this was the case, then couldn't we look at the benefits gained by the winners and the costs borne by the losers to determine if the policy was overall beneficial or costly?

I'm only considered liberal on here because the average poster thinks Trump is a moderate.
Trump's deregulation of the financial industry will come back to bite us just like it did with Bush.
Greed is not good.

Winning
Too much winning
Never ending winning
Continuous winning
Unending winning
Winning everywhere
Uninterrupted winning
Winning the big things
Winning the little things
Winning the midsized things
Winning economically
Winning politically
Winning foreign policy
Winning domestic policy
Winning, winning, so much winning!

You could, but you are just going to find that covering poorer folks and/or unhealthy folks that otherwise can’t get insurance means covering a more costly risk pool. Of course you can’t market a bill that way. Tell everything, hey, get ready for pay a lot to get more people covered!
The only thing really putting downward pressure on things was the individual mandate, which was ironically the first part to be done away with.
The ACA comes down to whether you think it’s worth it to for those able to pay more to have more fellow Americans covered. It’s not the only way to accomplish that, but the free market is not going to do it either. I understand why people are against it, and I actually favor an altogether different system, but it did accomplish the goal of more Americans having coverage, albeit at a cost in terms of tax dollars and increased premiums

Did your life change under obama? Presidents ahve a very low impact on your day to day life. I don't particularly like gorsuch or the ballooning of the debt.

It's a friecking insurance contract. If the government wants to give health insurance to the uninsurable and the poor, fine. Figure out how to do pay for it and do it. But limiting the freedom to contract for the rest of us is what they decided to go with. Thanks Obama.

I’m with you, but that is ultimately a single-payer Medicaid-style thing. And that was rejected at the time. It would have never passed even if it were cheaper and tightly controlled

Kicking 37,000 old folks out of nursing and group homes in Louisiana must have had a negative effect on at least the relative of one or two posters here. (See Medicaid)
If they do the same in Wisconsin, I'll tell them to park my 99 year old man in front of the local GOP headquarters and let him die there. (He voted for Trump and Walker, I'm sure.)
Evictions

Not single payer. But yes...Medicaid-style. Don't limit what I can do because not everyone can do it. Give those that need a safety net a safety net. If I want a catastrophic policy or a Cadillac policy...the fact those getting insurance for free cannot, should not even be a consideration.

That's a tremendous oversimplification.

or, in other words, if you think it's fair to have people who make better choices on average pay more to subsidize the bad choices of those who make many multitudes more mistakes on average
i pay over $600/month for health insurance. what did i do wrong to justify that punishment?

Democrats called Bush racist for warning of the future sub-prime collapse. Then it collapses and the Dems blame bush.
Bush deregulated Wall Street and appointed a Wall Streeter as Chairman of the SEC. Wall Street sold crap to Freedie and Fannie.
Bush deserves all the blame he can get.
