Not the reasons for protesting, but the act itself.

How successful is peaceful protesting?

IMO, force and violence are much more powerful. Now, that does not mean looting or random acts of violence. I'm talking about directed, controlled violence.

For example, these protestors blocking streets in major cities. What exactly are they doing? What kind of impact are they actually having?

I fully expect many "WTF" responses.

oh shite. we just had a "jinx" moment

but i've posted for years that protesting is stupid and only marginalizes a cause more than promoting the cause

Yea, I saw your thread but didn't feel like acknowledging its existence.

You'd have to have some kind of wrong with you to go protest. Have to be a dumbass in my eyes.

I guess im just a rebel without a cause.

The Gandhi led Salt Marches were eventually successful by bringing attention & galvanizing millions.

The 381 day Montgomery Bus Boycott was also astoundingly successful.

Tienamen Square China(1989) not so successful , but neither is all violent resistance.

If it is a legitimate cause I think protesting can be very effective over time. The Vietnam war protest and civil rights protests were very successful.

I think we're too passive as a society.

If 10% of our country really wanted to effect reform on a major scale for a single issue, they could do it with ease through peaceful protests and activism.
