Let them have legal unions with all the legal rights of marriage, but not adoptions.

And while we're on the subject, reinforce religious rights to not serve gay unions.

Not forced to bake a cake, not forced to bless a queer, not forced to officiate a ceremony.

No one has to do that for me - perverts should not have privileges above others.

Protect the children not the perverts.

You're mischaracterizing the situation. It's actually the opposite of what you're saying.

You misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm speaking in general terms. If you don't believe that expelling homosexuals from the country (as was advocated here) unless they adhere to your religious rules isn't forcing them to your religion, then you are being intentionally obtuse.

quote:

The government refraining from involving themselves in the love lives of gay people is NOT forcing anyone to adhere to any religion.

In fact, marriage has historically been purely the domain of religion for a lot longer than it has been a legal arrangement.

Therefore, the government getting involved in ANY citizen's love life—straight, gay, or anything—is actually the government appropriating a religious sacrament.

You can likely find nearly identical words in my posts from a dozen years ago. That was my argument against allowing gay marriage. It's a ceremony that is religious in origin. The SC disagreed. As long as it receives government recognition, it cannot exclude same sex couples.

quote:

If what you really wanted was for the government to separate itself from religion, you'd be advocating for all legal marriage to go away and for marriage to go back to being a religious designation.

What I really want now is for us focus on things that are actually problems. Gay marriage isn't one of those things. And honestly, it's not going to be one of those things any time soon. The SC has ruled. DOMA was illegal. It's over.

We have 20 million illegals, record homelessness, structurally corrupt government agencies, MILLIONS of DEI hires across the country who are incompetent and dangerous, political ideology trying to override science, and countless other imbecilic and crippling policies foisted on us by the Obama and Biden regimes. We've got things that are actually important to worry about.

When those are resolved, we can move on to getting government out of the marriage business.

DEI's roots go straight back to gay marriage.

It was the "normal" gays push for domestic partner benefits 30+ years ago cloaked in diversity garb that morphed into the sheer insanity we see today.

We may pull up the DEI weeds but the DEI seeds will germinate in gay soil all over again.

It's interesting to see all the anti-American Kamala Harris fans in here supporting Obergefell.

People who are ok with ignoring the vote of the people, so SCOTUS can make federal law.

50% support of something on a random survey does not make it a good idea to take a hardline stance onit politically. The political game is an art, not a science
