I think that very few people knowledgeable with regard to the study of these issues consider genetics to be the sole determinative factor. The studies seem to indicate that homosexuality certainly does have a genetic factor, but it is not entirely determinative. Hormonal factors play a role, as do issues related to the uterine environment. Lastly, there is no question that post natal environment also plays a role.

The point that is being made through the oversimplified terminology of “born this way“ is that sexual orientation is largely determined before puberty by factors outside the conscious control of the individual.

There is a significant difference between (a) those persons who actually believe themselves to be more closely aligned with the gender other than that usually associated with their physical sex and (b) those persons who play dress up for fun or for sexual gratification.

The former scenario is largely controlled, as I understand it, how many of the same factors which play a role in determining sexual orientation… No not necessarily with identical results. The latter is certainly something that can be much more under the control of the consciousness of the individual.

you can define two genders or you can define 1000. I simply do not care. Are there an infinite combination of various variables? Yes, probably so. But you can group them however you like.
