I’m disappointed no one wants to engage with the broader democratic governance aspect of this. The tension between state authority and local democratic governance is a major focus of my research, so I find this aspect of the story especially interesting.

This literally keeps me up at night. I just don’t understand why these legislators are behaving this way.

I met with one of my mentors yesterday. He asked me how I’m doing and I told him I’m very upset about Calvin Duncan and the judgeships. He asked me if I’ve been doing anything to take my mind off of things. I started going for long walks outside during lunch a few months ago but my office is extremely close to the courthouse. There’s been protests and news people filming segments there almost every day wheni walk past it lately. My mentor told me I should try walking the other way.

Today my husband asked me if I’m ok because I seem blue. I told him I’m really upset about Calvin Duncan and the restructuring of criminal court. He told me I need to just try not to think about it.

When the only advice people can offer to deal with the fricked up things our legislators do is “try to pretend it’s not happening”… idk how so many people can be ok with this.
