Glad you mentioned Oathkeepers… I've been active in the local District for the past year or so. Great group of patriots and preparedness experts that get "it" and are ready in the best way they can be. It's a good fit for me personally, being a "safety-minded" Patriarch of my family.

I agree with a lot of your sentiment, but organization will go out the window depending on the situation. At this point, we're much better off making honest assessments about yourself, your neighbors and your communities, figuring out who can be relied upon, and for what.

My parents live in a much more rural area, surrounded by a fairly small group of neighbors who are more than happy to exchange food and labor for protection. Less than a mile away is a neighbor who is an avid HAM operator for communication with the outside world, we even have a dentist, and a doctor in that group. All of this has already been discussed. If things get nasty, that's where I'll be.

With that said it is the governors, who along with their generals, who have the most control over their national guard units ... reserves not included of course.

Bottom line is that Conservatives and true Constitution loving patriots dominate our combat arms units ... even the flyboys and their pilots.

ETA: One thing most civilians do not understand is that we retired guys left guys who served under us in charge. They in turn have people in the command structure who served under them, and so on. That's not counting family members, sons, grandsons and so on and so forth.

When it comes to combat arms Conservatives dominate ... and that includes maintenance.

I understand your line of thinking. But you (and the military) would be ill-advised to discount the sheer numbers of weapons in civilian hands.
