It was an interesting day

I visited the W. Donaldson Correctional Facility today on a work related matter and was given an opportunity to see the physc ward and Death Row amongst other things. The overcrowding issue and lack of adequate funding for those operating the State system is down right frightening. That said, pray for ALL those that both work and "live" behind those walls. It was a sobering experience...

Mental health funding seems to always get cut and there's a huge need for services. It's a shame.

A couple things... when you are at 189% max capacity with one guard per every 300 inmates that's a problem.... when you have a lawsuit that is forcing the State to dump almost every non violent offender back on the street to get down to 135% capacity that creates more problems. When you pay a guard 28-32g yearly for salary and require him to not carry a gun that is another major problem. When the the State uses the pen. system as a dumping ground for the mentally ill that's a fourth huge issue. I never said anything about releasing or making it easier on those serving time. As a Christian it is our duty to help those seek a change of heart that will solve every issue that placed them there to begin with. If you have had an individual take someone from you via violent crime I am extremely sorry. That said, the Bible requires Christians to seek and help those in need. If that offends you it tells me greatly where both your mind and heart are currently. Building more prisons in an effort to provide public safety is great, no one said it should be a country club...
