Ubi will never happen. It can't, unless the government literally takes complete direct control over every company in the country. Because the goal of a company is profit, what does it profit companies to invest massively in robotics and other things people claim inevitably lead to ubi, when those same companies are just going to have to pay those extra profits right back to the government to fund ubi? While simultaneously putting productive workers out of jobs and onto ubi (subsistence level) so they will no longer have disposable income, whos going to be buying the products they sunk all that capital into making? Ubi is on the same level as the perpetual motion machine. That doesn't even address the little issue of once everybody has ubi, the way people are going to try to get elected will be what they always do, promise more free stuff. Who honestly thinks if ubi did happen it's going to just stay at that level, plus how inflation would feed back into that scheme.

People who think UBI is going to be necessary anytime soon remind me of the patent office guy wanting to shut the whole office down in the 1700s because he thought everything had been invented already.

If we as a society start rewarding people for simply existing and nothing else we will fall apart quickly. We are seeing the unintended consequences of welfare state and it would be 1000x worse with UBI.

Also politics will be a disaster. Elections will turn into who can promise the biggest UBI increase. All you need are 51% of the population dependent on UBI and you’ll never lose another election.

UBI is a trash idea

And it wasn't hard to see coming. Nor was the fleecing of civil liberties, which Americans aren't even willing to comprehend at this stage.

This is an excellent post.

Any proponent of UBI is broadcasting they have no idea how wealth is created. UBI is the equivalent of paying half the country to dig holes and paying the other half to fill them up. Without the shoveling.

You post this like wealth creation is an objective on the Left's target list. Don't rest easy because UBI doesn't make sense to you. For all the reasons you find the idea wrongheaded, it's the perfect program for the active Left.
