I think you mean sales taxes. I don't know of any figures on property taxes. Not saying you are wrong but I think you may have misspoken.

I believe there is 1 route out of 17.

It looks to me like there's a bit more than that. Look at the route map and the St. George map:

By my count, routes 46, 47, 17, 57, 55, and 3 all have at least one stop in the proposed St. George.

For a very long time I have viewed BR as an amalgamation of neighborhoods that have a central hub downtown and radiate from that point.

I guess it depends if you mean village St. George or the proposed new City of St. George, which is quite extensive.

No, it doesn't depend on that.

Is the tax district in the city of Baton Rouge only? I thought a judge ruled that since it wasn't a municipal tax, it was subject to homestead exemption.

That would indicate the taxing district doesn't follow the city limits exactly. I thought some areas around Baker were also included.

Also, there was a proposed route map floating around. I'm not sure if that's the new one or the old one.

I'm pretty sure there are a number of stops around Mall of La, which is unincorporated EBR now.

part of 46 and 47, yes. I don't believe 3 lies within the boundaries. Most of St. George lies outside of the bus route. Basically take the bus route, and everything outside of it is St. George, minus a few areas.

I also don't know if these stops are actually services, and how many buses run on these routes. Again, i'm not an expert. I think the only safe thing we can all agree on is that CATS is horribly corrupt and should be shut down.

You're right 3 doesn't, I think I'm right on the rest though.

Private bussing, a less corrupt public bussing? Anything but CATS. I don't see how anyone can support it in its current state.

I'm researching that. I'll get back to you when i find it. Again, i could be wrong. As i said earlier, there are others that are more knowledgeable on the subject than I am. I'm relatively new in learning of some of the things.

Then how the frick can you tax us for these things?

Did the voters of the parish consent by vote? There are probably things in the French Quarter I have to pay for with taxes, since I live in New Orleans, but I don't directly benefit because I don't live there, do I?

Private bussing

Is private bussing illegal in Baton Rouge?

Are you suggesting they close CATs and pray that someone swoops into to replace it - or are you suggesting their merely outsource it?

BRPD's own website does not include the Mall of la. in it's coverage area since the Mall of La. is not inside the city.

LINK

BRFD as best I can tell has the same sphere of coverage, but if you can prove me wrong please do so. I don't want to mislead anyone here.

No it is not illegal, in facts CATS was outbid on the proposal to service LSU by a private company.

FWIW, CATS is a regional system. In fact I believe they even went into Port Allen at one time. From the CATS website:

quote:

Who Are We

Capital Area Transit System (CATS) is the regional transit authority of the Baton Rouge metropolitan region. CATS provides quality mass transit services in East Baton Rouge Parish for a population of 430,317 and within a service area of 296 square miles in the capital region. CATS provides fixed route service, paratransit service for disabled passengers, contractual service to Southern University and seasonal service for special events. CATS operates 20 fixed routes and paratransit services with 90 transit buses and vans. CATS operates the main terminal at 2250 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge and uses a hub and spoke model for delivering its transit services
