Iran is saving face with their own people, at least trying. Not a good look that Israel, US, and just about any swinging dick can fly around at will over their country. Don't know how much outside internet access their people have, but I bet it's very little if at all. Iranians probably getting all their information from state sponsored sources.

The real assertion from Iran will be a naval blockade. If they do that they are asking for trouble.
