Very close to each other.

HRC 2016 presidential election 780,154 votes

JBE 2019 gubernatorial election 774,469 votes

Is ~800K votes the ceiling for a DEM statewide candidate?

The key for REPs is to have a candidate that can exceed that 800K.

Only Mike Foster did, but he ran against Cleo Fields and William Jefferson.

Holy shite. So the votes are there. People just need to go vote. Apparently they need someone to get excited about.

If people aren't excited about their own best interests...screw em.

Obama got 783K in 2008 and 809K in 2012. So it appears there is a low 800K ceiling.

Louisiana is still plenty Red. It is just a matter of candidate and turnout.

ETA: WJC pulled 815K and 927K but that was vs Dole. Gore 792K and Kerry 820K.

Obama won 80% in Orleans parish in 2008.

JBE won 90% in 2019.

That's just crazy to think about.
