Eventually, but it will probably be the last.

If Obama is able to replace one of the conservatives on the SCOTUS it will happen before LSU wins another NC. He'll before Bama does.

Um, that's exactly what the rulings in Utah and Oklahoma say they have to do.

might have been my misunderstanding. I thought it simply said it was unconstitutional to make a law prohibiting the marriage, not that a state HAD to allow it now.

It's amazing that some of the people in this thread are entirely ignorant of the judicial process and potentially landmark litigation.

There are now two major cases that are making their way to the SCOTUS. The rule of 4 is going to mean that at least one of those cases will be heard.

There will be a definitive ruling on same-sex marriage within the next few years. If the decision in Windsor was any indicator, same-sex marriage will be legal and recognized in Louisiana by the time the OP retires.

Only via federal mandate.

What federal mandate is that?

Yes. A ban on marriage between two consenting adults in a way that violates due process rights is unconstitutional, and at some point the laws will reflect that.

Yes, one day the morons will wake up and realize

"Hey, gays getting married actually has no fricking impact on my marriage or happiness, so who gives a shite"

The Louisiana right-wing will never awaken to that fact. Jesus told them they can't.

As well it should be. Every state has ratified the Constitution, and the Constitution prohibits the State from passing a law that violates due process. That is, if two people want to marry each other, the State can consider many factors when deciding whether to grant a marriage license, but whether they're men or women isn't really any of the State's business.

Utah is being forced to follow the Constitution that they themselves ratified.

I did not suggests there was a mandate. Was only implying that I do not think the citizens of Louisiana would vote to legalize gay marriage.

The will of a lot of the people was that racism and segregation was right. Doesn't make it right.

I bet a lot of Ole Miss people didn't want to integrate. Didn't make it right

Not debating right or wrong here. Just asking will it happen?

The right wing is slowly going to die off over time as they hold firm to their archaic beliefs...

I think it will be legalized in the next 5-10 years. It will be a nice little boost in the divorce business too.

You haven't experienced rural South Carolina(it is the source of the name Wrong Tiger Town Clemsuck) they really do believe that the civil rights era was not successful. I had a waitress at a restaurant inform me that the dishes of the monkeys were washed separately from the real peoples. My eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets with those words, and that was in 2003.

They will lose this on some ruling down the road. So yes even in your lifetime I see it as a probability.

. They should bow out now and switch everything to a recognized union/ contract between two parties.. Leave it up to the church to call it a marriage.. It allows for the distinction to be made by the people/church involved. Clear seperation of church and state..
