what mitt didn't understand about that comment, because mormon's aren't critical thinkers, is that 47% of americans pay no income tax by design. by the way during covid it rose to 63%.
in 1981 reagan dropped the top rate from 70% to 50% and more importantly indexed the brackets to inflation combined with the tax cuts in 88 and bush's middle class tax cuts in 2001 and trumps in 2017 we find ourselves with a middle class that no longer has skin in the game.
the real question is that morally and fiscally sustainable.

When he said 47% are automatic Ds no matter what. The only question is if it is still 47% or higher
In reality, Democrats have become the party of losers: the maladjusted; the rejected; the 'perceived' victims.
Romney knew this because - that which you subsidize, you only get more of. Hell, with government handouts, I'd be a democrat - fighting for 'what's mine'.
Half the people probably need to be cut from subsidies, as it's made American lazy as Fk. Review the standards, to ensure only the most needy are eligible.
What Trump is trying to do is simple. Remove the incentive to get on the government teat.

Yes, and the act in total lockstep while the Republicans are always fractured.

The problem is he ignores the overall numbers that bother to vote. Alot of indies are sitting on the sideline.

Romney said it at a small fundraising dinner attended by very wealthy contributors at a club in Boca Raton. It was a private function, but surreptitiously (and illegally) recorded by the bartender in cahoots with Jimmy Carter’s grandson. They then provided it to David Corn (a communist columnist) at Mother Jones magazine where it should have faded away after having been read by MJ’s 53 registered subscribers. However, our old friends at NPR ran with the story and everyone else piled on. Might have cost him the election.

I may be misremembering, but I believe the sound bite in question was after the election.
It was definitely before the election. May 2012

“Why should this be important for us to know?”
I’m not even sure the poster’s assertions are true, but the reason to know is that a country should be aware of the general predispositions and world views of the immigrants it is admitting.

quote:Now let’s think about this a minute. What’s the 14% you mention ? Is that of the total population? If so, wouldn’t it be twice as many of 47% you mention? Just curious.
What is 14% of 47%? That's likely the percentage of illegals voting. What's 9% of 47%? That's likely the percentage of dead people voting? I could go on and on. It's up to the R Party to stop this. Apparently they don't want to.
