Democrats are split on whether to hear new testimony on a deadly riot they lived through.

The House’s impeachment managers delivered an article of impeachment to the Senate on Monday charging Donald Trump with inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, making it official that a trial will be held. But Senate leaders have already agreed to delay the trial for two weeks, while the former president’s legal team prepares its defense and senators work to set up the parameters, with much to be determined.

Perhaps no procedure is more complicated than the question of witness testimony, with Democrats divided over whether witnesses are even necessary to prosecute the case against Trump, whose alleged conduct occurred mostly in public view. Senators from both parties also want the trial to be even swifter than Trump’s first trial, which lasted three weeks.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) acknowledged that Democrats are split on the issue, with many asserting that senators themselves were witnesses to the insurrection while others contend that senators, who are jurors in the trial, should not deprive either side of the ability to use witness testimony.

they also argued that the Senate shouldn’t be bogged down with a trial when there’s urgent work to be done on the coronavirus pandemic, among other matters.

I wonder if they will get to see the court documents that show this riot was pre planned and had nothing to do with a speech. surely thaty've seen those, considering its common knowledge at this point. right?

YouTube is deleting videos showing the "rioters" already at the building while Drumpf was speaking.

But they most surely would be allowed for the defense. They can't deny them that, can they? I mean... they can certainly try... but they won't succeed.

We dont want to bog the country down with complex concepts like witnesses and evidence. these things frighten people. We have more important work to get to.

There’s a couple of states up north that innocent people died , lost all their belongings and jobs from the anarchy of BLM and ANTiFA that could school them about being put in danger . Way back when the country was formed the traveling alone to DC was more hazardous than what these politicians seen in their entire careers

Also read yesterday that Senate is considering the use of "secret" ballots on the vote to impeach.

Can they do this? Dare they do this?

Cowards to even bring it up.

Yep, dealing with highwaymen. On the coach roads they did ride. With sword and pistol by their side.

Many a soldier shed their lifeblood on their blade. Many a maiden lost her baubles to their trade. But they hung him in the Spring of ‘25.

The problem with the way the Dems are going about this entire farce is that they are looking at the impeachment as purely political. In their heads, they believe they can do what they want and there will be no repercussions as long as they can convince people that they're in power and you can't stop them.

Once they start enacting legal consequences, which is the intent, then they will face the real law, not their fantasy high school popularity contest they're all competing in.

If they try to take legal action against Trump, he can sue them. And it will be in front of the Supreme Court. And Roberts has already said this is ridiculous, so good luck.
