You're right not to. No one in the United States Armed Forces is fighting for his country. He's fighting for the likes of Halliburton, GE, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman and every other publicly traded defense contractor in this country.

I retired in 95, the military was beginning its change then. I told my kids not to join when when they graduated hs. None did. Tell your nephew to get out. As long as he doesn't go to basic between sophomore and junior years he has no obligation.
