I realized around 2008 that it effectively equates to everything I earn for the first 4 months of the year goes to the government. Then basically, from May through December, I get to keep what I earn. It's infuriating.
It makes it worse to know, what Ron Paul taught me, that Thomas Jefferson specifically wrote in Article 1 of the Constitution (it's still in there) there would be no direct tax upon the people. That lasted 126 years, until (the income tax) Amendment 16 legalized this governmental stealth of individual wealth under the threat of imprisonment.
It's further infuriating when you watch a corrupt government become complicit in waste, fraud & abuse of those dollars I earned & could have in hand to spend, save and/or invest.

They say it’s not really a tax on your income, but rather your income is a guide to how much you pay in taxes. Word games to be sure.

The Jews in the time of Jesus were ready to revolt against the Romans because they were being taxed at 30 to 40% between Rome and the Temple.
Now those are rookie numbers.
Now those are rookie numbers.

Instead, most Americans never see that money in their bank accounts, and so never realize that it’s their money that the government is being so insanely irresponsible with. Same goes for the debt that is hung around every American’s neck from birth in our national debt.
If Americans ever came to the realization that those dollars equate to sweat from their own brow, they’d have a completely different mindset on all of this corruption and government hand outs to anyone who asks for it and big hearted politicians dole out on our behalf.
I've never considered this. That's the truth. Great post!

quote:frick that. Make them carry a stack of new, crisp $100 bills and hand it over to some faceless bureaucrat to be pissed away and stolen. We'd either have government bankruptcy or a revolution in year one.
If Americans had to actually cut a big fat check every year

You can still pay it all on April 15, but be ready to pay a hefty 2210 penalty.

The top 25% of earners pay 87% of income tax. What percent of people do you think will be upset by having to pay their tax out of pocket instead of through withholding?
