The dims in the 90's began to revel in the nostalgia of the 60's revolutionary counterculture. Hippy flower children, psychedelic drug use and the counterculture against the Vietnam War. It came up in the early 90s for almost no reason other than America's youth was bored and craved a new style.*

This new movement did not arise out of a real need to have a protest against the Iraq War I. The dims coalesce around the notion to always have a protest for a cause, any cause, and the more controversial, the more dim you become.

*Don't get me wrong- IMO, the music that shaped my formative years was from the early 90s which I still listen to today.
