When's the last time smokers, as a group, were compared w/ nazi sympathizers or were told their actions would destroy the planet?

None of those things are what make smoking so terrible, though they play a role. Its the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, naphthylamine and arsenic that do the real damage.

I think," etc." Implies there are other factors right?

I've never seen this comparison for "global warmers" (not sure what else to call them) either, but if it has been made, who takes this comparison seriously?

I haven't seen/heard anything about smokers wiping out our species in hundreds of years, but I do see anti smoking ads claiming bullshite like more people die from second hand smoke every year, than car accidents.

You might be able to find extremist claims/comparisons by global warming alarmists, if you go looking. You are beaten over the head with them from the anti smoking groups, by simply watching tv.

American society has come nowhere close to alienating "global warmers" as much as they have smokers. Smokers are the one group of people that it is completely acceptable to treat like shite. It is more socially acceptable to look down on smokers than it is addicts of harder drugs.

I'd love to hear of an industry that has been vilified to the same degree in this country as the tobacco industry.

Hell, look at this thread. Compare it to a GW thread. OP doesn't question whether smoking is harmful or not, but rather is it as harmful as we have been lead to believe (it isn't), many responses on the first page didn't even answer this question, but were just general "uh.... Smoking's bad, mmmmmkay" answers.

GW threads are met with an onslaught of replies calling BS left and right.

It is much more generally accepted that smoking is the worst thing in the universe that you can do..... Legally

There is still a hell of a lot more resistance to the GW alarmists than there are anti smoking groups. Therefore, there are more people willing to waste their time compiling stupid lists of the most extreme claims ever made regarding GW to prove stupid points.

The extreme claims made by the anti smoking groups are accepted by a much larger portion of the American population than the extreme claims of GW alarmists.

Again, just look at this board. Start a "GW alarmists make _____ claim" and watch the ensuing "GW is bullshite" circle jerk. Compare those responses to what Kash was met with in this thread.

Every skeptic of GW is called a "denier"...in reference to the "deniers" of the holocaust.

That is a damn fair point.

The oil and coal industries.

I guess I'm coming at it from a different angle. I see your point about tobacco ads trying to scare individuals from being anywhere near cigarettes, but government and pop culture isn't trying to change our entire way of life because of 'em. They are doing that w/ global warming....every day.

I honestly never made the correlation.

Not even close.

Sure they are..... For smokers and proprietors of businesses that cater(ed) to smokers, shite has changed dramatically in the last decade or two. It's not just warning labels (which again, GW alarmists have yet to even achieve) anymore. Where can you smoke inside anymore? In some places, cigarettes aren't only required to be behind the counter, but also cannot be in plain view. What other products do you know of that cannot be seen in stores, even if they are being sold? Maybe porn, in some places. Is there anything taxed at a higher rate than a pack of cigarettes?

Which would be more generally accepted in your community; higher gas taxes or higher cigarette taxes? I get that many more people use gasoline than cigarettes, but there is also much wider acceptance that cigarettes=bad than could be said about gasoline.

Really, the GW alarmists need to find the people that have pulled the most strings behind the scenes from the anti smoking crowd, and follow any blueprint they can lay out for them..... Of course, many of these people are probably big players in both groups.

We might hear an awful lot of GW BS, but they still have a hell of a long way to go to catch up to the success politically and socially that the anti smoking crowd has had spewing their BS.
