An iconic former Jacksonville Jaguars player derailed the social media outrage over a report that the team will sign Tim Tebow while controversial former player Colin Kaepernick continues unsigned.

Supporters of Kaepernick and his anti-police crusade took to Twitter in outrage that Tebow, an outspoken Christian and former quarterback, might join the team at the tight end position. Many claimed it was the latest example of racist discrimination in the the NFL against Kaepernick.

Former wide receiver Jimmy Smith denied that race had anything to do with the decision.

"This is my team. We don't need Colin Kaepernick on our team!" said Smith during an interview with TMZ.

Smith said that Kaepernick would just divide the players in the locker room.

"We need a guy like Tim Tebow, who's a hometown hero who has love for the city anyway!" he added.

"He's going to be a great support for Trevor Lawrence," Smith said, referring to the team's recently drafted quarterback. "Whatever capacity that is, it's going to be a positive rather than a negative."

Smith went on to speak directly to complaints from other players that Tebow received consideration only because he's white.

"I doesn't matter whether you're black or white, what matters is, you got a great example of a player in Tim Tebow. Alright? That's the guy I want to associate with!" he said.

"What has Tim Tebow done to these people?" Smith asked.

He also praised Tebow for his faith and expressed hope that he would help the franchise get back to winning football games.

Smith played 11 seasons for the Jacksonville Jaguars and scored 67 touchdowns while recording 862 catches for 12,287 yards for the team.

Is Kaep even trying to play football? Is he built like a tight end and switching positions?

I think it's funny how the Chocolate Soy Boys in the NFL have whined and cried about Tebow.

Tebow prays when he kneels

Kaep kneels in protest to America's anthem...

over a criminal thug like Mike Brown who decided he would try to fight an officer for his gun

Kaep = darkness

Tebow = light

Pretty clear choice who is the right choice for a teammate

Smith showing solid reasoning and class on the subject Tebow.

IMO, Tebow should have been more humble and switched positions years ago. The people bringing up the SJW QB who failed to show up at a NFL workout created just for him to b showcase his talent are race agitators.

If we as a country are going to make it through these dark days of social justice, critical race theory, Marxist, socialist, racist bullshlt....

We need more wonderful men like Jimmy Smith so stand up with statements like this

Powerful message and beautifully stated!

You have to remember these NFL players in their 20's-early 30's have been brainwashed by our education system. Jimmy Smith is 52 and graduated from high school in 1987. He actually has critical thinking skills. He's also from Mississippi. My boy.

Are there any football metrics where Kaepernick is better than Tebow?

Never been a Urban fan and I still remember what Lawrence and Tebow did to my college team.

Haters have me hoping are successful and have a winning team.

We sure about that? I'd bet Tebow has been far more responsible with his money.

When Colin Kaepernick is 60 people will still be crying about him not being signed.

Nike threw $60M at him and i'm sure BLM and others have given him kick backs. Tebow had some modest paydays but nothing like that. Now keeping his money long term who knows.

You know what's funny? I just had a discussion about this with friends.

This country is very diverse with people of different backgrounds, ethnicity, etc working together daily with no issues.

The media puts the message of the vocal minority out there as if they represent everyone. They don't. Most Americans, black, white, whatever are tired of this divisive crap that the media keeps churning out.

We get this when people are run by "feels," and not logic.

So many logical reasons this was done ie talented still athletic hometown guy who knows the new coaches system amongst other things.

Hey blacks....lay out logical reasons for a team to hire your guy, and you can earn supporters. Heck if he even wants to be picked up, which I don't think he does.

The left can't understand their points are outdated. Can't say it's racist cause there are plenty of black QBs in the league...heck the top paid are black QBs...and not even worth it. Looking at you Dak. Stop making shite up where it isn't.

1. Kaep doesn’t want to even play in the league - this is a fact based in the shite he pulled with the try out they tried to give him back in 2019.

2. Players are given try outs all the fricking time, the only reason Tebow makes news is because he’s a former headman trophy winner and someone who people actually like because he’s not some womanizing degenerate.

Epitome of privilege is receiving millions from the NFL as an untalented QB because you convinced a court you didn’t get work from teams because you’re black.

Kappernick cant play and does not respect this country.....

That is why he is not on a team! Not because of his skin color.
