The election is over. How can you change a vote?

The oath is NOT a formality. It is expressly written in, and required by, the Constitution. If you recall, John Roberts flubbed Obama's oath, and they had to do it over behind closed doors in case of some kind of Constitutional challenge.

Okay, thanks.

Still, it doesn't have to be the Chief Justice. Calvin Coolidge's father, a notary public, administered the oath to his son after receiving official word that Harding had died, and Johnson was sworn in by a Federal judge, Sarah T. Hughes, after Kennedy's assassination. So if for some reason civil disturbances disrupted the inauguration, it could be done elsewhere by just about any judge.

I think all the social angst they are drumming up is just getting the party started early for 2020.

The race relation issues they created weren't bad enough this time, need to make things seem worse

The electoral college has to vote, and while there is no precedent, it's been debated electors in some states aren't legally bound to their EC vote. This comes up every election. It's a pie in the sky idea.
