Imagine the backlash if someone said “I’m only going to consider white males for the position.”
frick Biden.

Why not an Asian Female justice?

But were you clutching your pearls when Reagan did it? When Trump did it? If you did, great you are consistent and not hypocritical. But if you didn't then just be aware of your own confirmation bias.
And my personal take- appointing a qualified black woman is good for our country-- representation does matter. Do I wish he would have just done it without the promise to do so? Sure. But that's politics and there are examples from both political parties.
When did Trump do this? He nominated ACB but I don't recall him saying that the candidate specifically had to be a woman. ACB was considered a top candidate for a while. She was considered a high possibility when Kavanaugh was nominated. Picking the best candidate that happens to be a woman is far different than picking a candidate that must be a woman.
Reagan doing it doesn't make it okay now and didn't make it okay then. Plus, the left hates Reagan so wouldn't a decision he made be a basis for why Biden shouldn't do it.
There is nothing wrong with appointing a black woman if she is the most qualified candidate. But excluding possible better candidates so you can appoint a person of a specific race and gender is ridiculous. This position will likely be filled for decades and this person will make decisions that impact the lives of every American citizen. So let's make the primary factors in their candidacy the color of their skin and the genitalia between their legs. Just more stupidity from an already terrible administration.

Shouldn't that be an insult to both women and blacks?
And whoever the justice ends up being, will be forever labeled with the "they're there not because they are the best, but because they are black" label.

As long as the individual selected from a specific race/gender was in the top 10 list of candidates proposed by the Obama Administration to replace Justice Scalia in 2016 (adjusting said list for experience, availability to serve, etc) then I have no problem with it.
