I Remember Perusing the PPACA Website Plans The Year Insurance Became Mandatory

It was 2014. Luckily for me I also joined the military that same year and was exempt from having to find coverage through either an employer or the exchange.
I was a 25 year old law school grad with no disposable income who couldn’t even get a decent job because I was still waiting for bar exam results.
On the Louisiana PPACA exchange, I could not find minimum coverage for less than $1,200 a month based on my income. I would not have been able to afford it. Especially given the fact I went to the doctor probably twice a year for your typical cold or fly symptoms, I would have been subsidising the market.
I didn’t realize how arse-backward our healthcare system is until having a conversation with my uncle who is an emergency room doctor. He said I would be appalled at the number of low-income families who come to the ER for basic treatment.
How was Obamacare ever passed? It was completely unaffordable for your average American, of which I was at the time. It was basically a tax, and nothing more.
Good riddance, I say.

The government would have saved everyone a lot of time and trouble by setting up and funding indigent/illegal immigrant/poor folks medical centers, not by doing it themselves (GOD FORBID!!!) but by using grants awarded to communities to set it up how it made the most sense around a set of medical best practices. At the very least to handle the everyday medical stuff, not major surgeries, etc..

The first year Obamacare game out it had SWEET deals in my zip code in AZ, I was super pumped about it, but I do remember from threads on here the exact same plans were at least 3x higher in Louisiana. The 2nd year they were higher but not bad and the last couple of years they went through the damn roof and now are way more than the plan I had before Obamacare with way shittier coverage.

Exactly how it goes.
The entire D pitch for Obamacare talked about year one.
Those opposed to it knew year four was unavoidable.

It was designed to blow up so the progs could take another step toward socialized medicine.

Sounds identical to the decline of every single plan introduced under communism - sounds great at first, sux balls when fully implemented.

All along, the narrative surrounding Obamacare has been about expanding the number of people covered and covering people with pre-existing conditions.
Not enough press/talk/conversation/public discourse has been about the enormous, unaffordable premiums required by these plans. For anyone who worked for a small company that offered no benefits, Obamacare was a devastating hit to the wallet. Imagine your tax bill going up $600 a month for practically nothing. That actually happened in our country. Appalling.

They had to pass it to find out what was in it!

I hate Obamacare as much as the next guy but no need to flat out lie.
A 25 year old never did and still does not have $1200/mo premiums.
