She brought a banana as a prop because she thought she had a "gotcha" moment. What an embarrassment.

"We cannot build bananas in America" might be my new favorite line when it comes to pointing out the lunacy of the left

Grown yes.. grown in a commercial environment and cost effective. A challenge
They have different varieties now.. some more cold hardy but you need them to grow and survive through a winter to produce fruit .. also grow cavendish dwarfs so they use energy to produce fruit ..and not stalks

I have a few dwarfs in my backyard in katy …..occasionally neighbors and friends get a cluster but it is unusual

But fun to try.

Just as an FYI, Grok says 8,000 metric tons of bananas are grown annually in the U.S. Florida and Hawaii are the biggest producers. A metric ton is 1000 kgs or 2,204.6 pounds.

That approximately 57.14 million bananas.

Just as an FYI for you, 10 metric ton = 1 shite ton.

They can be grown here, just not as good as in Central America.

Drunk history did a pretty good segment on Sam the Banana Man and how lucrative the Banana business was and how the term Banana Republic came to be.

The Fish that Ate the Whale is an interesting book on banana importing from New Orleans.

quote:

When Samuel Zemurray arrived in America in 1891, he was tall, gangly, and penniless. When he died in the grandest house in New Orleans sixty-nine years later, he was among the richest, most powerful men in the world. In between, he worked as a fruit peddler, a banana hauler, a dockside hustler, and a plantation owner. He battled and conquered the United Fruit Company, becoming a symbol of the best and worst of the United States: proof that America is the land of opportunity, but also a classic example of the corporate pirate who treats foreign nations as the backdrop for his adventures. In Latin America, when people shouted “Yankee, go home!” it was men like Zemurray they had in mind.

Fun fact
Bananas foster was created because the banana companies in Nola wanted to create more recipes..

Dole use to come into nola but the dockworkers would not get them unloaded fast enough.. they are sensitive to time.. fruit companies offered to build a dedicated off-ramp connecting the dock to the interstate.. their cost.. Nola said no.. dole moved to Mississippi and built that loooong dock extending to deeper water for their trucks.
