I need to make an apology regarding Mayor Cantrell

When it became obvious that the NOLA mayor runoff was going to be between Cantrell and Charbonnet, I publicly stated that Cantrell was the least of two evils.
I believed then, and still do today, that a Charbonnet administration would have been the return to a Morial-like administration, with massive corruption and pay to play deals.
I felt at the time, the city was close to really taking off economically, and to have an administration, constantly trying to shake down business, would have been a disaster.
I also felt that Cantrell, while she had some questionable personal decisions (her taxes, her credit card use - which was just as bad as the rest of the council, her husband), that she would be rather aloof, and too incompetent to cause too much damage.
Never, never, in my wildest imagination, did I think that cantrell would be capable of some of the insane decisions that she is currently making.
Charbonnet would have been a disaster in her own right. But I'm starting to think that her disaster would not have caused as much long-term damage as this current disaster of a mayor is causing.
I'm a man and I can admit when I am wrong. I was wrong.

So you believed that the one THAT WAS ALREADY ACCUSED OF COMMITTING CORRUPTION would be the one less corrupt?
I fricking hate you.
I railed against Cantrell from the start. I couldn’t believe people were voting for her.

So, I live in the Baton Rouge area and am not up to speed on the New Orleans COVID numbers. Are they that much worse at this point in time than everywhere else in the State?
From the outside looking in, this woman is acting like a damn dictator.

Not paying taxes isn't the same as corruption.
Charbonnet's brother, who would have been the point man of her administration, has been accused of far, far worse corrpution.

No. Not at all.
She also made her latest pronouncements today, hours before JBE even indicates what Phase 3 will look like.

I saw exactly the same thing with her (Charbonnet). However, at the time of the election, I simply couldn't conceive of anything Cantrell would do that might have actually been better than this.
Sadly, I guess I was the right one here.

I was referring to her credit card scandal.

New Orleans has maybe the best numbers per capita in the entire state.

Voting for candidates in Nola is like choosing whether you'd like to cut off your right leg, or your left leg.
Either way, you're getting fricked and will end up going in circles.

Now can all the Abraham voters who stayed home and didn’t vote for Rispone against JBE should do the same.

which is an even more damning indictment of what Cantrell is doing to that city

Sure. And at the time, every other council member, and every other council member in recent history, was doing the same damn thing. it was a slush fund across the board.
In retrospect, I should have given more weight to that issue.
But, I don't think Latoya's biggest current issue is corruption. Far from it. Her current antics are that of a mad power-hungry cat, not pure corruption.

Hey, I got that one right... I voted for Rispone all the way.

There are better outside enforcement mechanisms to contain corruption than there are for sheer ineptitude. That was the flaw in your calculus.

Agreed. And I underestimated the level of sheer ineptitude.
