White ally. Black ally. LatinX ally.

These bother me. When I was growing up (80s and 90s), we were taught to love those from different backgrounds and make friends. I did. I had black friends. Mexican friends. I even lived out of this country and MADE FRIENDS. Friends I still talk to today. I didn't make allies. Allies are only there as long as you have something to give to them and they have something to give to you.

Have we become so obsessed with otherness that we can no longer just be friends? Have we created a bridge so far we cannot cross it. We have to meet somewhere in the middle and be allies only because we want to pass abreast of each other.

frick allies.

I want friends.

ETA: I have republican friends, neo liberal friends, classical liberal friends, jeffersonian conservative friends, progressive friends, etc.

I cannot. That would be marking them as other. If progressives started the ball rolling, conservatives gave it a hearty kick. We've retreated to tribal identities when we were so close to getting past it. We were so fricking close, but our politicians realized that a united proletariat might actually make them do something other than race or culture bait for votes.

We let them win.

It's very condescending to those they are "allying" with.

Dan Carlin on Rogan discussed this a lot today. We cannot get past the opening gambit of a political conversation these days. We can't get to the good stuff, the high minded ideals. We cannot get past "I hate that motherfricker." "NAZI"

I love how your racist arse completely ignores the opening premise.

But you do you.

The opening premise of the OP is fine by me. I was replying to a poster in the thread who blamed a political party for the divide in America. Pure ignorance.

This applies to you as well unless you simply didnt follow the thread...

And so it is those we live with and should know who elude us. But we can still love them - we can love completely without complete understanding.”

I doubt many Mericans can name planks in their own parties platform. They're Republicans or Democrats because they hate the other guy and are prone to fall for simple propaganda.

Issues are irrelavent and impossible to discuss anymore

That was Nixon. Johnson predated that with "having blacks vote Democrat for 200 years" and JFK and Bobby Kennedy kissing that Commie MLK's arse, for votes.
