It in no way benefits Joe. It's probably the worst VP running mate pick in history.

I do, at least when you consider: A) the limited possibilities and B) the box he'd put himself in.

Kamala is a climber, and with that comes someone who can be controlled both by Biden and by public sentiment. She's not a zealot (at least by current lefty standards). She checks boxes (female, black) without the nutjobbery (Abrams, for example).

The downside is she's just not very likable and won't get enthusiasm among the hard left. But Biden is probably prioritizing moderates over enthusiasm and hoping that most on the left will still want to turn out for a black/female candidate and against Trump.

In sum, I don't think there was a better candidate who could partially placate the nuts while not completely alienating the middle. There were several equally "meh" choices, but none better for those purposes IMO.

Their only hope ever was/where was for Trump to self-destruct, he hasn't.

A quick glance at the hard lefties on twitter and they are PISSED.

The left has a witch's brew of groups that have all sorts of opposing positions (all of which are somewhere in the hard left sphere), no way someone wouldn't be pissed. She will probably just veer completely left like Biden. Their kooks are all that matter.

I agree. I think Harris was probably the best pick to make. And she’s tough / capable enough to basically be the real candidate to oppose Trump (which will likely not work) but it’s a better spot than someone completely incompetent like Abrams or Buttguy running around.
