It's virtually impossible this ever happens. Washington, D.C. is prohibited from statehood by the Constitution. In order for them to change that, there has to be a constitutional amendment. So in order for D.C. to successfully become a state, it needs 2/3 majority in the House (which it won't get), 2/3 majority in the Senate (which it won't get), and 2/3 majority of the states (which it won't get). This bill is dead on arrival.

This is what Nancy thinks about the constitution.

Thanks, that’s what I seemed to have remembered.

Counting on Joe Manchin to come through is like hoping the Pope stops being a communist.

Maybe they're just testing the waters before going after Puerto Rico then. They might be trying to set the narrative that one cannot become a state due to the constitution saying so, then turning around and saying "well nothing in the constitution says PR can't become a state - why don't republicans want it to be a state? is it because they're racist?". Then boom, PR is the 51st state because republicans are pussies and would rather cave than argue they're not racist. Once the race card is played, republicans lose.

Every. Single. Time.

I look forward to the arms race to continue splitting states to create additional senators.

East/West Idaho
North/South Montana
Etc.

She may think it... but there's really no way around it, is there?

It's not like they can just start acting like D.C. is a state and say there are now 102 Senators and 436 Congressmen... er.. Congresspersons.

DC/Puerto Rico statehood and court packing is equivalent to when bush was campaigning on constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marriage..... never was going to happen but made sense politically at the time.

I believe the constitution also states that states can't be split to formulate a new state.

Makes you wonder what other pointless B.S. this new Congress is going to waste it's time on.
