Militarily we will always have the upper hand because we have the biggest/baddest Navy in the world and everyone needs us to keep goods/shipping safe.

Yeah, frick them for trying to take care of their population

Europe cares for their population so much that they import 3rd world thugs who rape women and children then arrest the people who complain about it.

"What the idiots of the board don't realize is that we didn't become a world super power by alienating our allies and self isolating. We did it by making friends, which is why Russia and China has struggled reaching our level."

Friends don't hang around just because you give them money. The reason these countries are our friend is because we are sinking millions of dollars into programs that support their interests. They don't give two squirts about us otherwise. I am all for participating in a joint venture when each nation pays their share, but for too long we have paid way more than anyone else to protect them.

Don’t we want to meddle in world events, finance others’ defense spending, and be a persistent presence in global activity?

There is some truth to this.

When you frame the U.S. as a global criminal enterprise competing against other global enterprises you need real time information from around the world to keep an advantage. He who has all the intelligence has the upper hand.

Being involved in world wide alliances with financial ties and NGO's is a way to keep that intelligence flowing in.

There is a point however where the cost of doing this becomes unsustainable. Empires get stretched thin and break up or contract.

It's been that way forever.
