Wrong. What happens is manufacturers bring their operations into the US? There are no tariffs. Additionally, what liberals simply refuse to understand is that Trump doesn't really want to use tariffs. He likes the threat of them to equalize the playing field.

1. You completely missed the point of my post (I.E. it was referring to blanket tariffs on commodities, not targeted at certain countries).

2. You can't manufacture the worlds supply of steel and aluminum (which is what my post was addressing) in the US, which should be obvious.

3. Because you've put a blanket tariff on external steel/aluminum, you've increased demand on US supply. Class, what happens when you drastically increase demand but keep supply static? If you said "prices go up" then you may have learned something in school.

Based on what?

There are extremely few people on this entire board that has more inside info on this topic than I. I socialize with brand district managers, VPs and Exec CEOs of brands several times a year. Same with CEOs of every major large auto group.

's more about having common sense and knowing the basics of economics.

If you put a 25% tariffs on imported steel and aluminum (important for cars), then domestic steel manufacturers can raise their own prices by 20% and still undercut the competition.

That still means prices go up though.

Let them raise prices again i hope they all go bankrupt.

Vehicle prices are fukin ridiculous high

Probably what will happen. US Domestics will raise prices in response to tariffs.

What I see from your post is. "I'm a pompous, pretentious, condescending, arrogant, smug, libtard frick loser. I've never done anything in my life, so I have to get on the internet and pretend that I'm better/smarter than everyone else."

Your tears are DELICIOUS lib. Keep 'em coming. There is nothing like the taste of liberal tears. Since Trump took office my hydration is so much better from all the liberal tears I've been drinking.

This is how a populist views anyone with more knowledge than they have.

The truth, everyone should understand those basic elements of society. Youve been left behind.

Why were those operations not in the US to begin with?

When you answer that question, you will understand that you are incorrect.

Either way, prices go up.

If import companies stop importing as a result of the tariffs, then to whatever degree that happens domestic companies will have less competition. Less competition almost always means higher prices.

If they continue to import but the cars are more expensive due to the tariffs, then domestic companies will raise prices because they can. If the BMW equivalent SUV goes up $20,000, now Ford and Chevy can charge $10,000 more than they otherwise would have and still get your business.

And if the manufacturing comes into the US, then prices will go up because of the answer to the question I asked above—which I'm not going to give you...I get so tired of pointing this out here that I'm going to make y'all figure it out yourselves from now on. Maybe if y'all start saying it yourselves it will sink in.

Here's a hint—manufacturing jobs coming back to the US instead of staying overseas does not benefit the American consumer in any way, shape, or form, with the small exception of the American consumers who also work the manufacturing jobs.

And if we recovered every American manufacturing job ever "lost" from the US and then doubled it, we'd be talking about maybe 16-17 million people. So we'd be talking about 5% of the country benefitting and 100% paying higher prices.

quote:

What is going to happen is that all of these so-called allies of ours are going to bend the knee and capitulate.

That is the one and only scenario in which prices may not increase. They will likely stay the same. Because if the trading partners simply drop their tariffs it will benefit the car manufacturers here and the citizens of the countries that will now be getting tariff-free American cars at lower prices, but won't do anything for the American consumer.

quote:

placing tariffs on our number one enemy is a wise move strategically, regardless of inflation. It will damage their economy much worse than ours, and that is a win for us

If the second sentence is actually true, then I can go along with that. I don't know that it is, though. Let's say it is. It still won't help American consumers. Either we will sill buy goods Made In China at higher prices or we will buy more expensive alternatives. Now if it really damages China's economy then it may be worth taking the hit, just like Regan's overspending in the 80s led to the collapse of the USSR...totally worth it any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

But I would need to know a lot more about how it would hurt them worse than it would us before giving more than a conditional agreement.

Biden reversed everything Trump did. Biden didn't want to bring any jobs back. Biden wanted to send more jobs overseas while flooding America with illegal criminal invaders.

Car prices have skyrocketed over the last 4 years and Democrats are only just now realizing that it's "not good".
