The Democrats want to keep you sacrificing

We more of them business sacrifices. All in the name of protecting you from a virus with a 99.9% chance of survival. Perhaps the media will ask Judge Hidalgo while she shutdown the Covid triage hospital within a month.

This is all to put Joe in office. It's purely political nothing more at this point.

Someone should ask our honorable Mayor and County Judge if they will cut their salaries in half to stand in solidarity in this “sacrifice.”

A lot of cities will be scrambling to fill holes in their budget at this point.

If office buildings go empty because of telecommuting and retailers move to delivery service because they can’t get foot traffic, why would one set up IN a big city as opposed to in the suburbs?

Sylvester and Dora the Explorer are still angry that Abbott said we're reopening whether you like it or not. Took their power away.

At this point why would a business subject themselves to this stupidity

Main reason would be IF the foot traffic business of being within a big city is worth it.

Large office buildings generally don’t need it and are instead a big provider of foot traffic for restaurants.

Retail is being limited to superstores a la Walmart and Target or supermarkets. Smaller boutique retailers are probably better off going online.

Restaurants are generally being pushed to take out or delivery only. Covid restrictions are heavily limiting the amount of money they can make through dining in.

Some business models like movie theaters were already in danger and are likely to shrink significantly as more people start doing digital movies at home rather than an expensive outing to the theater.

IMHO, this will add up to a severe hollowing out of big cities while people withdraw to the suburbs and rural areas as many jobs become detached from a physical location.

Pretty much.

Especially in certain huge cities where there was a gigantic bubble such as LA and NYC due to a lack of land to build on and/or heavy restrictions on use.

I think we agree that stay-at-home wasn't and hasn't been well thought out - should've been limited to the at-risk populations. That being said, all data shows that the hospitals are getting slammed and the bed shortage situation is on the horizon. Basically the broad stay at home order and the broad open up are/were equally dumb, not thought through...mainly because of politics.

I remember getting into a debate with someone on the OT about this

They thought that the owners of commercial real estate would somehow be immune to this because they had "contracts" stating that their tenants had to pay.

What a moron

Abbott’s order will go a long way to alleviate that. Open the triage hospitals. Carefully vet who actually needs to be in the hospital for Covid. There is plenty they can do without dangling a shutdown over our heads again. There a lot of places that barely made it out of the first round that will be done if the Gov shuts us down again.

The property group that owns our building has absolutely gutted their staff. Mid level corporate management is now having to perform basic property management duties.

The local restaurants are toast...I'll see you at Chilis or TGI Fridays this fall.

Downtown? It's a ghost town from what I've seen.

Lots of things would be toast. We can thank Turner and Hidalgo for keeping us safe in the breadlines
