Companies will just export that work TO India to skirt this. Big Oil is already doing it. Jeets will work for a fraction of what American engineers and IT people will.

I just hope they pass a law which tariffs ANY call center located on foreign soil to the point of inability for the business to farm it out.
My billion dollar idea is to create a “platinum package” available to AT&T, any airline, any software company, anywhere- that hires only United States citizens located in the continental United States who speak English as their first language. These behemoths who give so few fricks about customer service, not to mention their customers that they farm out dealing with them to people who can’t fricking speak English.
This same company would let you press O for a human being, and would not make you sound like a lunatic as you had to speak your problem to a fricking robot.
Now that everything is a freaking subscription (which I also hate beyond all reason) I would honest to God pay a premium to never again have to shout the words “operator” or “human” at the top of my lungs, or to go to some annoying fricking chat bot on your website. Of course I checked your website. Your FAQs are shite, and if I had an alternative to shouting operator at the top of my lungs only to speak to someone in freaking India who I can barely understand. I would.
Infuriating
Hopefully those things are in the works...something similar has to be otherwise it doesn't mean much. Some countries have already tried workarounds for tariffs there surely must be a plan for this too.
