Forget it, CT. Just too problematic having a 'Nation' of low-energy, entitlement-minded brats along side our own. They'd SELL out to China in a heartbeat, like a lot of poor Nations are and will.
Besides, do they get their fair share of the Military assets?

I see. I had this crazy idea that the "southern" side in this hypothetical might form some sort of governmental body to address these concerns. I assumed that would have been obvious, but I didn't account for your limited vision.

Let's take the SEC as an example except Florida who would probably want little to do with a southern federation outside of the panhandle..
That's a lot of leeches and not a lot of tax revenue. So what do you do?

I do t think we should lose the nation over politics. I prefer to fight it out and let one side win. If you believe in the republic pick a fricking side and go buy a rifle. Let’s just get on with it. People act like civil war doesn’t occur and that is BS. We were like this over politics in the 1800’s and over 600k people were killed fighting for what they believed in, what’s wrong with that?

Let's first be clear and call this what it really is: a split into "left" and "right." Leftland and Rightland.
You know as well as I do that Rightland would stretch well outside the borders of the deep south. There are plenty enough jobs currently available in Rightland to provide a tax base to keep the lights on in the beginning. The stampede of businesses fleeing Leftland's burdensome taxation and regulatory policies will grow that tax base nicely.
I didn't say it would be easy or painless, but you're a fool if you don't believe a nation built on true conservative principles would thrive in a very short time (fun fact: You live in such a nation). I'll be generous and give it 25 years before Leftlandians are flooding the border crossings, begging for refugee status in Rightland.
I forgot to add: The "leeches" as you call them? They'll be hauling arse to Leftland for all the free shite they won't get in Rightland.
