Saw someone say on the facebook link (Patriot News) that it was 20 injured.

Take that with a grain of salt.

They are still trying to get them out of the trees....

but no. I'm not even going to try to reach out. He has a job to do.

And it's like I stated in the OT..

Mass casualty does not mean we have a bunch of dead people, it's we have a large event and it could be a lot of casualties and without EVERYBODY on hand, it could turn into that.

I hope that makes sense.

Yes... Prayers from every person involved, from the soldiers to the EMTs, the workers getting them down... DRs, Nurses... families...

Casualty also doesn’t necessarily mean deceased folks.

I haven’t always known that.

like a systemic parachute failure or something.

Ummmm, a "systemic parachute failure" ????????

That doesn't happen in the United States Army. Parachutes are packed by a Parachute Rigger, and their name is on each parachute. Their name and their arse is on the line each and every time a soldier jumps.

It happens quite a bit usually when either planes get a touch off course (rarely), they're going too fast, the wind is stronger or is poorly predicted, etc. It especially happens a lot at night (which given the timing of this post, I am assuming it as a night jump).

This hypothesis of yours seems more plausible.

eta: Prayers to all involved.

Just as an FYI, the term "mass casualty" can refer to injuries, especially when used in a military context.

Right. Like I said, sometimes when speaking we don't think people are not on the same page.

Cross post I made to OT;

I know.. God help me it's CNN but it's up to date

quote:

There were 84 infantry members that should have been part of the jump, and so far 75 soldiers have been accounted for. Base officials are conducting a headcount and say it is "all hands on deck" to get soldiers out of the trees.

Some soldiers suffered limb injuries from hard landings, but none of the injuries are life-threatening, Sangster said.

They could have worded this differently

I just did a news search and a local paper says that over 80 jumped. Twenty two were injured when wind blew them off of target and into pines tress (is there any other kind in the Pine Belt?) and of those 22, 15 were treated by medics in the field and 7 were taken to Forrest General hospital with unspecified injuries. I am sure they could be off slightly in the numbers but that's the gist of it from what I can tell.
