I don't disagree that he wasn't a good retail politician and Bill Clinton clearly was/is, but it's hard for any political party to win as many as 3 straight presidentials, much less 4 (who else has done it except FDR and his last one was obviously an unusual circumstance with the US drawing close to winning WWII?), and still GHWB would have accomplished it if not having gotten hit by the business cycle at the wrong time (the economy was already well climbing out of the recession but the time of the '92 election, but the damage was done).
