tariffs will just make our cost of living rise.

They will absolutely. So what? We will be paying more in taxes and a tariff is a tax by any definition. The trade off will be more jobs for Americans in the US. Jobs that pay a living wage.....not jobs selling cheaper products from abroad. The entire conservative movement, the driving force behind the demise of the working middle class in the US has ended and Donald Trump ended it. No more we will see politicians on either side try to sale the fantasy of “free markets” (there is no free market when on nations taxpayers provide all of the funding for global security) and trickle down economics. Yes, trump paid lip service to tax cuts fueling the economy as a bone to the investor clas....but he shifted the tax cuts to tariffs because he knows trickle down is a as big a farce as a “free market”.

Trump has awoken a beast. The pandering from politicians to the working middle class has begun in earnest. This is why the establishment is so set against Trump.....because they fear for the sweet heart deals they have garnered through “free market” fantasies and trickle down policy. Regan is dead and Trump finished him off!

Point being, when I'm buying a $15k motorcycle, is that extra $100 gonna stop me?

My understanding is that the 2200 doesnt come from the steel tariffs. Most of that comes from the EU's targeted retaliatory tariffs that include motorcycles, whiskey etc.

let's see - BMW employs 10,000 workers in South Carolina and Mercedes Benz employs roughly 21,000 in GA and ALA. combined. Harley Davidson roughly 6,000 worldwide with the bulk in the U.S. I image roughly 35,000 workers out of work if this trade war keeps going. MUGA. (AKA make unemployed great again).

cheap imports are what has given us the quality of life that we have at a pretty low cost. instead of using tariffs to try and make US industries competitive why not remove the regulations that keep them from being competitive on their own?

The claim is (and, I admit I have no idea of its veracity) that the trading conditions are unfair. The tariffs are to incentivize the other countries to adopt more fair policies.

Example (made up)

Country A opens its market to all parties making Widgets to compete. Only requirement is it meets the standards of Country A

Country B says "We cap widgets made by Country A at 20% of all widgets sold within our borders"

Country A sets a Tariff on Widgets from Country B.

Country B screams "FOUL" and tries to enter trade war.

Country A is such a large market that Country B, in time, agrees to open its market to widgets from Country A (maybe the compromise is cap adjusted to 45%)

Country A drops the tariff and the markets are now MORE FAIR to the widget producers in Country A.

Because it costs far more to clean up pollutants than it does to prevent them from being released

can't play the game, don't dress out. He has brought more jobs here than would leave because of unfair tariffs.
