Guy in front of me at gas station,” do y’all take EBT” then buys junk

I was at the gas station earlier and waiting to checkout, when a young man in front of me, about 25, asked the cashier if they take EBT? She says yes and he proceeds to buy a Big Gulp, candy bar and box of small cigars!
How did we ever allow this food stamp program to be used like this?
I bust my butt working and paying taxes, and this young capable man is using EBT for junk!!!

I'm pretty sure that isn't legal. That store shouldn't be doing that. Now if he was using a woman's card, some of them get a cash benefit, and they probably can buy cigars with that, sadly.
One of the guys that I pick with kind of regular, he manages a grocery store, and we get into discussions about this stuff pretty often.

Households CANNOT use SNAP benefits to buy:
Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, or tobacco
In addition, FITAP(cash) recipients are prohibited from using their EBT card for the purchase of an alcoholic beverage (beer, wine, hard liquor), a tobacco product (cigarettes, etc.), a lottery ticket (including scratch-off tickets), or jewelry at any retailer.

I was in line and they wouldn’t let the girl buy Starbucks in a glass bottle but told her she could get it in the can. I thought that sounded strange

I think you are right, I think he said that they can get cash back though, and then buy what else they want.
