Pete would have been their best choice if he wasn't gay.
ETA- probably can't do Shapiro because its tough time for a Jewish politician right now with everything going on regarding Israel/Gaza.
They probably want Kelly to stay in AZ to ensure they keep that Senate seat for several years. He should win again easy in two years. Not guaranteed that win with his replacement.
I think they were mostly looking at Governors to ensure they had easier time of keeping Senate seats.
Who else does that leave? The Illinois governor?

If that is the pick than it makes zero sense to me. He must be one of the few that didn't turn her down assuming he is it. A Governor from Kentucky brings nothing to the campaign. Assuming he hasn't turned her down I think her best option would be Kelly from Arizona. I am saying that no one wants to be apart of this shitshow and the one that does attach himself will be owed alot of political favors.

If they pick Beshear it is because they wanted a young moderate white guy with a famiy.
Shapiro being Jewish could pose problems with the Gaza stuff going on
