Don’t represent MLK and his views today, and then go back to the status-quo tomorrow.

“I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”

-Martin Luther king Jr.

I think President Trump used the quote today.

Don’t care about Marty, spent the day doing fun stuff.

Any quotes from the women he used to have affairs with?

I'll agree that it's uncomfortable to agree with. But, that's the wrong we face.

So, we'll just agree with the happy stuff and act like the other stuff never happened.

And, listen, I'm posting this here because it's behind a closed door so to speak. I embrace this thought but have no clue how to carry it out. Some call that white guilt. I call it enlightenment.

good answer. sounds like you thought this one through.

it's hard, but please read the entire passage and then respond. I'll agree that it's hard to digest, but this is a conclusion drawn by an educated man.

And, it's the same battle many still fight today.

Somewhere along the line, the democrats decided to abandon the whole "judged for the content of their character instead of the color of their skin" meme.

Too bad. It was a pretty good idea.

I agree. there has been and will always be manipulation, but we have to see through it to see the truth.

I've been seeing this quote a good bit lately, and I think one problem with how it is used today is that it lacks the context in which it was originally placed. King was speaking not only about a type of person, white moderates, but he was doing so in the context of ongoing debates about policies. The underlying principle of racial equality under the law is almost universally accepted now in this country. The real questions now are over policies, such as policing. As I joked with a friend the other day, how woke I am probably depends a lot on the policy being proposed.

seems likely you don't have a job because of your invisible disability

Social interest or unrest? Make up your mind.

The fact is that you did not "work all day". It's OK to admit that.
