Appreciate you posting it.
Pretty hackish of some posters in here to pretend like this wasnt updated and bumped to the first page over and over and over again every time another 33 cents was chipped in.

Who said that? Specifically?

He wants the money directed to a 501(c)(4) which he controls? That way he gets to pay himself with the money and avoid the potential for fraud related to the original fundraising campaign. He admits he won’t use the money to build the wall. A 501(c)(4) is basically a shadowy political activity organization. Contributions are not tax deductible. This is where he pockets the money.

I didn’t see a single poster in there stating the go fund me would be able to raise 5 billion. Most of the posts were impressed by the amounts being raised. Can you link me to a few of the “most” posts that thought it was going to fund the entire wall?
I didn’t interpret the original post that way. I interpreted it as people believing that the raised money would actually be spent on the wall in some capacity. I’m certainly willing to concede that it never seemed like the majority believed this fund raiser would come up with the entire amount.

So congress specifically created a section of code to allow for shadowy political organizations? Interesting.

That could set a trend. Look for the Clinton's to give back all their Foundation money.

Yes. Who do you think funds all that shadowy lobbying and ads? It’s one element of the true swamp. It’s a nonprofit that can engage in direct political activity.

Shadowy?

Please don't quote this, but...
I agree with TBoy.

What is the gotcha?
The entire thing was symbolic.
Even if the goal was reached and accepted by the government, the House would still have to approve of any funding to the wall, no matter where the money comes from. (including Mexico)

Skimmed through that thread, didnt see a single person who said that the 1 billion goal would be reached. Saw lots of people saying the point of it was to send a message though.

How silly to mock people for financially supporting causes they believe in
How silly to have a brain and fully understand how the govt works and how unrealistic getting private donations of 5B was..
But hey, you people came close.... Got about 4% of what you intended
Participation trophy, maybe

Wonder if he will refund the million+ in personal checks he solicited for on the gofundme? It originally said "every penny will be refunded"

I could see calling people delusional that a GoFundMe could raise a billion dollars, I dont quite see the delusion in believing the government would take a donation for a certain program.

The person to which he replied, in response to my comment.

And the detractors of the idea, myself included, felt that the gofundme was a way to fleece emotional people of their money without actually delivering anything in return.
Symbolic.
Symbolic.
