Gillette CEO and president Gary Coombe is defending the $8 billion write-down Procter & Gamble experienced last quarter related to his brand, saying in a recent interview that it was “worth paying” and that he doesn’t mind alienating some customers.

Glad he feels this way, I'm out and I know many of you are as well.

I just don't understand how Wall Street just shrugged off the write-down.

Edit: 8/3 @ 1020

AUstar states (page 4):

... recently switched to German made Merkur Futur which has been on the market since 1985. Or you can buy the Chinese clone of it for about 1/3 the price.

Also, if you switch to a safety razor be sure to avoid Gillette blades. They, unfortunately, make some of the best safety razor blades in their Russian (PPI) factory. Obviously any razor with Gillette on the box is to be avoided, but they make a number of blades without their name on them such as: Astra, Sputnik, Permasharp, Polsilver, Nacet, 7 O'clock series. Avoid them all. (Great blades but still made by Gillette). Gillette makes their blades in St. Petersburg and NOT Moscow.

Here's the Moscow made blades NOT owned by Gillette:

Rapira
Voshkod
Ladas

His personal preference is as follows:

Dorco Primes (Korean owned)
Wilkinson Sword Classic (Made in Germany)
Personna Blues (Made in USA and not owned by Gillette)
Voshkod (Made in Russia)
Feather (Made in Japan) - Sharpest blades on market, almost too sharp. Will slice the frick out of you if you don't know what you're doing.

and LuckyTiger reminds us (Page 2) that P&G is a 'monster'...

Always menstrual hygiene products
Ariel laundry detergent
Bounty paper towels
Charmin bathroom tissue
Crest toothpaste
Dawn dishwashing
Downy fabric softener and dryer sheets
Fairy washing up liquid
Febreze odor eliminator
Gain laundry detergents
Gillette razors, shaving soap, shaving cream, body wash, shampoo, deodorant and anti-perspirant
Head & Shoulders shampoo
Olay personal and beauty products
Oral-B dental products
Pampers and Luvs disposable diapers
Pantene haircare products
SK-II beauty products
Tide laundry detergents and products
Vicks cough and cold products

I don't endorse a ban to anyone but when my one year supply of blades run out soon, I know what I'll do.

Soys grow facial hair too. I suppose that’s the miscalculated angle they took.

shite, people will do anything in the world for the adoration of the left.

I really never gave a shite about the commercial, but him coming out and saying that if you dont like it he doesn't want you as a customer infuriates me.

I have a Gillette razor handle that is so old I cant gauge it...but it will not touch my face again. I have never boycotted a company. Until now.

Gillette goes from being profiled in the book “Good to Great” to this nonsense. His job is to sell razors and deodorant to men. Nothing more. He should be removed by the BOD

Don't buy Gillette any more.
Can't imagine the board liked his comment or the results.
