It's really not. It was ok at one time, but you'd have to go all the way back to the first Daley administration to find the period of time when the city was in good shape. He died all thr way back in '76. You should read the book "Boss" by Mike Royko.
Bilandik and Burne were pretty mediocre but Washington was completely incompetent. Daley Jr. kept the city clean, but he signed some really bad contracts and mortgaged a lot of Chicago's future. Emanuel, Lightfoot and Johnson were/are all morons.
The city is no longer safe. It's just not.

Final tally ...and it's actually pretty low for Chicago.
As of 5 p.m. on Sunday, 26 people had been shot, two killed, and three others had been stabbed, according to preliminary reports by the Chicago Police Department.
CPD usually tallies up holiday weekend shootings starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday nights through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday nights.
However, keep in mind that none of these numbers collected by Chicago's crime unit are accepted by the FBI. They're always skewed.
