Georgia Republican lawmakers unveiled their proposed Congressional map on Friday, which adds an additional majority-Black district in west Metro Atlanta, but seeks to preserve Republicans’ current 9-5 advantage.

That comes on the heels of Friday votes in the Georgia House and Senate passing their respective redistricting maps, just days into a special legislative session that gaveled-in on Wednesday. The Senate map adds two majority-Black districts and the House adds five majority-Black House districts.

The maps still have to clear the opposite chamber before they go to the governor’s desk.

The Republican-drawn state legislative maps passed over the objection of Democrats, who accused the majority of ramming through maps with scant opportunity for public comment, debate or changes.

Lawmakers are facing a Dec. 8 deadline set by U.S. District Judge Steve Jones, who found the current districts that were passed in 2021 illegally dilute the power of Black voters. He instructed lawmakers to revise the maps by creating additional majority-Black districts.

The new map and one with partisan breakdowns (CD-6 is the new majority-black district):

Dems seem more pissed that the judge isn’t implementing their own redistricting plan.

12/8 deadline is one week. I think they can swallow their pride and vote on it to see what is in it.

That could still happen, though these maps do implement the letter of the ruling (technically, they don't have to add a new Dem district). This map basically shifts the 4th and 5th districts east to create the 6th, and cuts up Gwinnett to dilute that Dem base.

Majority Minority Districts are 75% of the reason that extremes have taken over politics on the federal level.

They have outlived their useful purpose.
It’s seriously time to make them congruent with boundaries of cities/counties, etc drawn by states.

Democrats never care about redistricting when it's in their favor

Republicans don’t want a special master appointed by the court to decide the districts. Democrats would prefer it.
