Georgia building 60 miles of truck only road--La built an unneeded airport terminal

Georgia is considering building 60 miles of truck only highway between Atlanta and Macon. It would be a huge relief to the 75/85 corridor and would no doubt save construction on that heavily traveled interstate. It is slated to cost $1.8 billion and the cost of some concern.
Landrieu will have spent over $1 billion on the new, unneeded airport terminal giving taxpayers no clear benefit.
Which spending is doing the most to help their citizens.
Could we have built a truck only toll road between LaFayette and Slidell instead??

False. This will lower maintenance costs over the old terminal and the airlines wanted it and are partially paying by for it.

That's actually a really great idea.
I mean, imagine the number of brothels that will pop up on an isolated road with truck drivers.

I would pay $2k out of pocket for this...I75 goes 8 lanes and it isn't enough...
I roll to hotlanta in off hours because of this.

I love the idea of a Truck Only road. Imagine the congestion relief if it were able to optionally bypass major metropolitan areas (Baton Rouge I'm looking at you).

Truck only roads are music to my ears. I wish they had a truck only interstate right in the middle of the country.

There is no way to dismiss the boondoggle that is the new New Orleans airport terminal.
It will be bright and shiny when it opens maybe but that is about it.
I will wager whatever you wish to wager Mr. waiting4saturday that spending by the airport authority at the airport does not go down when this new terminal opens.

I have advocated for some time a toll road (the Zachary Taylor Tollway) running just north of Baton Rouge stretching from I-59 in Bogalusa to Vinton crossing the river in St. Francisville. We could then build toll roads on both sides of the river connecting 1-10 to the Taylor toll road making a square around the city.
It would be a HUGE relief to the i-10-12 corridor. Of course some people cannot see the very obvious benefit and would favor spending millions on a study to see it would be feasible.
Another alternative that I think would work would be a toll road between I-10 in Vinton crossing the state to Monroe and I-20. This too would take a lot of truck traffic off of I-10. All you need to see this is to look at a map and observe the traffic. Truck traffic falls off tremendously east of I-65 in Mobile. There are a lot of goods traveling between Tx/Mexico and the Midwest/Northeast. A road running to Monroe from the Southwest corner of the state would save a lot of miles and take a lot of traffic off of I-10.

It is, without question, 100% needed in Baton Rouge.
And I also wish Denham Springs would shut down that Pilot Truck Stop. The idiots that thought this was a good idea should be tar & feathered.

Study? pfft. drive from the west side of the Mississippi river bridge to Gonzalez any given weekday. There's your study

Still waiting for Mr waiting4saturday to put his money where his mouth is.
Anyone that thinks the spending will be less at the new terminal by the government entities running it than they are now are really naive individuals.

support it.
ive been out of the state for a while, is there any progress on completing i49 to New Orleans or has that been abandoned?

It would actually be the opposite of a waste of money. That stretch of the interstate is a nightmare, made far worse by the number of trucks on the road. It would help to relieve congestion and go a long way toward preventing accidents.

In the fwiw department - read about 25 years ago in Reader's Digest that just one 80,000 lb. semi does as much damage to one mile of highway as 6,200 automobiles do. No wonder asphalt only last about 10-12 years here in Ark. before the big trucks start tearing up the roads.

I guarantee some shady arse politician has purchased all the land that boarders it.
How else do they always get rich on a government salary?
