Should foreign countries be able to use our laws against American people?

I see what the you did there, OP. Most people on this board support ED for a foreign company when it's given a good name like Keystone XL.

This has to do with natural gas pipe line in Oregon! They want to buy out three hundred American people who don't want to sell their property! I don't think a foreign country should be able to kick Americans off their land for no reason.Canadian energy company is not American and even if they have American partners it still is not 100 precent American! This pipe line on America soil wi be Canadian and not American!

Public interest is the American people and not a foreign country! We have borders for a reason.

I don't know who will actually own the pipeline itself, but are you sure it will be foreign-owned?

My guess is it would be some type of limited partnership registered here in the States and one of the partners would be the Canadian energy company, but the LP (or whatever entity) itself would be registered in the U.S. and paying U.S. taxes. That LP would then have an agreement in place to carry the tar sands of the Canadian energy company.

Just a hunch, though.

And to answer your question, no, the Mexican government should not be able to use eminent domain to displace American property owners so the Mexican government can move their consulate to their desired location.

I know nothing about this case but I would give it a 99% chance this will be an MLP paying US taxes. And the only way that these properties get condemned is if the plaintiff can show that the pipeline serves an American public good through the court(s).
