This law needs to be reversed.

F-150 stranded me in an ice storm when lives were actually at risk and I was trying to get there with its "safety features". It determined the somewhat slick dirt in my driveway at the edge of the road was unsafe, cut the throttle, and slid me nearly into the house. After hours of reading the manual I found no override for this. Traction control yeah, but not that "feature". All I needed was a tiny bit of gas and I'd have been over the little hump

Glad my F-150 still has a steel cable that connects the throttle body to the gas pedal.

My next vehicle, probably sometime within the next couple years, will be an old classic diesel 4x4 pickup truck with no power anything, except A/C and steering. I want hand crank windows etc. No computer chips.

I like the column shifter on mine...which they don't make anymore.

2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

probably crash avoidance technology requirements, not the drunk driving prevention part. that will be a whole other issue.

Just like the automatic shutoff if a car has been idling "too long."

quote:

Mandatory Impaired Driving Technology (2027+): Section 24220 of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act requires the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to set standards for "advanced impaired driving prevention technology" in all new passenger vehicles, effectively making monitoring systems (like those designed by OEMs including Ford) mandatory by the 2027 model year.

Federal Fleet Mandate: Executive Order 13693 mandates that federal agencies with 20+ vehicles use telematics to track and improve fleet efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, and vehicle usage, with GSA-leased vehicles (including Ford) often featuring factory-installed systems, including FedRAMP-authorized solutions
