Trump attacking the media is pretty textbook Stalinist tactics.

I mean, you don't have to like the comparison, but the comparison is apt.

List these attacks? Or is criticism of yellow journalism now considered an attack on the press in the trump era.

Stalin prohibited the media from publishing factual stories and punished those who actually did criticize him with either execution or the gulag.

Trump attacks the media's credibility and has neither imprisoned nor executed anyone for publishing anything. The two couldn't be farther apart.

Can't say the same for Obama. D'Sousa, Rosen, Tea Party...and that's just the obvious.

The name calling is going nowhere; we're way past that. It's now a matter of who holds power and wields it. As if the labeling is going to change things. If Hillary had won, a lot of us would have abandoned this Forum; and we'd have good reason to do so. "Punish your enemies and reward your friends" (Obama quote).

I know you're trolling, but the fact that you're a military officer and believe the bullshite accusations against Trump, while ignoring the very real criminal actions committed by the Obama administration is frightening.

You're either not very intelligent, or you are intellectually dishonest. Which is it?

We get that you don’t like Flake but using “liberal” as a stand in word for anyone you don’t like just makes you look dumb.

I think Stalin is gaining popularity on their indoctrination campuses. Might backfire on them

Antifa will be in quite the conundrum as well

You not using the term liberal to describe Flake makes you look dumb. Flake has been a Dem team player, and a solid contributor at that.

Get back to me when trump starts jailing journalists and shutting down news orgs.

I'm not saying the president is always right about going after the media, but if they say something about him that is negative or even a lie, doesn't he have a right to criticize them? That is not attacking their rights in any fundamental way.

Abraham Lincoln, our greatest prez, had journalists who criticized war strategies jailed and I don't recall pundits describing those actions as "dictator like".

The guy in your avatar pic went on national tv and accused the WAPO of "siding with Gorbachev", and I don't recall him being described as stalinist.

why is it so hard for some people to say "trump's rhetoric about the press is uncouth and ultimately corrosive in several key ways to civil society" without going The Full Stalin?

Why not just compare him to Nixon if you want to criticize his treatment of the press?

It's generally frowned upon and looked at as disrespectful when you invoke hitler when comparing something. Why shouldn't the same standard apply to invoking stalin, who murdered more people than hitler btw?

Because this would be a lie as well.

Because calling them mean names does not equate to the ACTIONS that Stalin took. To not see the difference is childish, blinded by echo chamber opinion, or an attempt at something deeper.
