Was the prohibition from Congress in place when he signed the EO five years ago?
(I honestly don't know)

Are you saying I forgot the news article I read today that this is the five year anniversary of BHO signing his infamous "close gitmo within one year" EO (which is how I knew this is the anniversary of that event) which went into detail about the reasons his EO proved to be worthless?
Because I knew the reasons the EO proved to be a joke I specifically didn't ask "why isn't Gitmo closed?"
You are really reaching trying to save face. Keep reaching. You are doing just what I hoped one of your kind would do. This is fun!

The Democrats controlled both Houses of Congress for the first two years of Obama's presidency.
So, tell me again why he couldn't get it done?

Because there is no solution to the problem. Because he never should have made the statement as a candidate to begin with.
He opened his mouth to appeal to the Left. Once he was in charge, he saw there realty was no workable solution. The whole thing is a clusterfrick.

That's a good question. There will probably be a completely bullshite answer to it in a bit.

I agree with you 100%, LankyLawyer.
But, Bengal is trying to give Obama a pass by saying Congress blocked him.

I look at this as his George H. W. Bush "Read my lips..." moment.
Not trying to be difficult but I consider this a very poor analogy. President Obama suffered absolutely no reprecussions from his failure to fulfil his campaign promise. None.

Yeah, I almost included that.
I meant more as his actions being the polar opposite of the very clear language he used, but I understand your criticism.

Agree completely. In this instance, words had no meaning. A legacy of his presidency.

You do realize Congress has placed into ever military spending bill a clause not allowing him to close gitmo?
Just curious, wouldn't that mean that the Democratic controlled Senate agrees with the Republican controlled House on this point ? It couldn't have gotten to Obama's desk otherwise. Sounds like bi-partisan cooperation to me.
